HOW TO VOLUNTEER WITH RUCHI

International volunteering plays an important role in promoting cross-cultural understanding that helps create global awareness and provides the platform for positive change in the world.

Not only will it enhance your appreciation for the diversity and richness of other cultures, for many volunteers it will also mark the beginning of a lifelong commitment to ending poverty and hunger. Volunteering abroad is one way YOU can make a difference for the world’s most under-privileged people.

RUCHI offers 2 types of International Volunteer placement: The TOTEM International Volunteer Programme allows people interested in sustainable development to live in an Indian village and work along side local people on practical social, environmental and economic projects. TOTEM program volunteers will experience day to day life in a rural village.

As well as allowing an exchange of ideas and perspectives between RUCHI staff, TOTEM participants and the wider community the TOTEM program helps generate additional income to fund RUCHI’s continuing work in the area.

RUCHI also runs shorter term volunteer work camps where participants can gain hands on practical experience working on rural development.

A day in the life of a volunteer at RUCHI

After completing a 3 month educational placement with the Rural Centre for Human Interests (RUCHI) I was asked to write a ‘day in the life of a volunteer at RUCHI’ to provide prospective volunteers with a general idea of what they could expect. I have to admit that as I sat down to write this piece I was stumped. How do I write ‘a day in the life’ when every day was different?
